Wedding Reception Coverage in Birmingham

Birmingham's canalside venues and civic architecture give us an editorial backdrop most UK cities can't match. We shoot it for contrast: brick, water, and city light.

The reception is often where a wedding finds its own character — the speeches that go off-script, the first dance that turns into a group effort, the moment at 11pm when the floor fills up and the formality of the day gives way to something looser. It deserves to be photographed with the same attention as the ceremony.

We use a combination of available light and single off-camera flash during reception coverage. The result is warmer and more flattering than on-camera flash, and less disruptive to the room. Speeches are always covered from multiple angles so there is never a critical moment where the only frame is someone's back.

The first dance is the most technically demanding shot of the evening — typically low light, a moving subject, and one opportunity to get it right. We position two cameras for it as standard: one wide for the full scene, one closer for expression and detail. The same approach applies to parent dances.

Coverage includes the full drinks reception, your entrance as a married couple, speeches and toasts, cake cutting, first dance, parent dances if applicable, and the general floor through to whenever your contract specifies. There is no early-departure clause and no overtime charge for running slightly long.

For couples booking photography and film together, we coordinate reception coverage across both mediums so speeches and dances are captured cleanly by both teams simultaneously. The shot plans are agreed in advance so there are no conflicts at the moments that matter most.

Evening and reception images are delivered as part of your main gallery, edited to the same standard as the ceremony and portrait sets. Many couples find that their favourite images from the whole day were taken in the last two hours of the night, when the event settled into itself.
