An engagement session is partly about the photos and partly about what happens before the wedding day. Couples who have already spent an hour working with their photographer are noticeably more relaxed in their wedding portraits — there is an established shorthand, a sense of what works, and less of the stiffness that comes from standing in front of a camera for the first time.

The session itself is low-key. We guide you through a handful of portraits early on, then move to looser work — walking, talking, paying attention to each other rather than the camera. The best images from any engagement session are usually the ones taken in the last 30 minutes, when the self-consciousness has worn off.

We shoot engagement sessions at locations that are meaningful to you, or at spots we recommend based on the light and season. Golden-hour sessions at your wedding venue, city-centre shoots, woodland walks, coastal headlands — the location matters less than the quality of the light and the time of day.

Timing matters more than most people expect. A golden-hour session in a flat park almost always produces better results than a midday shoot in a beautiful location. We give specific timing and location guidance in advance based on your date, the direction you want the images to go, and what will photograph best for your colouring and style.

Sessions run 90 minutes to two hours and produce 80 to 120 fully edited images. No prints or albums are upsold through engagement bookings — you receive the digital gallery with full print rights and can do whatever you like with the images. Delivery is within three to four weeks of the session.
